So you want to know how to make your vagina taste good? You’re not alone, and many women have had similar thoughts. You may also be interested in learning how to make your vagina smell good too. What you first need to know is that your vagina’s natural taste and smell are nothing to be ashamed of, but you can discover ways to make your vagina smell good if something specific is leading to odor.
A Rose By Any Other Name
No, your vagina isn’t a rose. Your vagina isn’t outside of your body, either. If you’re looking up how to make your vagina taste good, you probably mean your vulva, which includes your labia and clitoris. This is the spot your partner will focus on when going down on you.
Side note: If you are currently struggling to orgasm during sex or masturbation, then you may want to learn about the Easy Orgasm Solution. It will teach you how to have multiple vaginal and full body orgasms during sex and masturbation. It works even if you currently struggle to orgasm during sex or when masturbating. You can find out more here.
However, if you’re more concerned about how to make your vagina smell good, you might actually mean your vulva (read all about female genital anatomy). Pungent aromas can emanate from inside of your vagina; however, your vulva can also be the source of unpleasant smells.
From here on out, we’ll refer mostly to the vagina and what the vagina tastes like, but we may specify the vulva.
Your Vagina Au Naturale
Your vagina has a natural odor and taste. It’s a bit musky and can smell like sweat because of how easily sweat can collect in that area (you’ll see how you can keep fresh in a bit). Sometimes the odor will be more pungent, such as after a workout. At these times, your pussy may not taste awesome or smell fresh.
Solution: The causes and 7 treatments for vaginal odor.
Additionally, you might taste of iron during your period [2]. Certain medications and foods can also affect the way you smell and what your vagina tastes like. For example, asparagus and large quantities of garlic affect your urine and sweat, and medicines like Mucinex can do the same. Consider all of those things if you’re trying to figure out why you suddenly don’t smell great.
If you want to give your man back-arching, toe-curling, screaming orgasms that will keep him sexually addicted to you, then you'll find them in my private and discreet newsletter. You'll also learn the 5 dangerous & "dumb" sex mistakes that turn him off and how to avoid them. Get it here.
But your natural musk is healthy, even if it takes some people time to get used to it. Furthermore, there are men who love a woman’s natural aroma and taste, and there exist women who love the way her man tastes after going down on her. Win-win!
Having sexual confidence and getting over sexual anxiety is difficult. Everyone deals with it, even men. But you can learn how to get over sexual anxiety here.

Remember that just like every vagina has its own scent, every vagina has its own appearance. By the way, there are many different types of normal looking vaginas.
Vaginal Smell or Symptom of Something More?
While the natural state of your vagina is normal and perfectly fine, a change in the smell, especially if it becomes unpleasant, may be a sign of something that’s not normal. We’re specifically talking about infections – bacterial, sexually-transmitted and yeast. Each of these infections alters your vagina’s ecosystem, resulting in unpleasant odors (and tastes) and other symptoms.
- Bacterial infections, also known as bacterial vaginosis (BV), is a result of an imbalance of “good” and “harmful” bacteria in a vagina which most often occurs in those who are sexually active [3]. Douching, sex, and masturbation can all cause BV; although, there is a host of other reasons. BV can be the cause of a fishy odor, and you might also experience discharge and pain or discomfort, especially while peeing or during sex. You can have BV without any symptoms, however [4]. Antibiotics help to clear up this infection. Learn more about bacterial vaginosis.
- Yeast infections are common and can result in a funky smell as well as a cottage-cheese-like discharge. Natural remedies such as yogurt can clear up yeast infections (more about the causes and symptions of yeast infections), and you shouldn’t have unprotected sex while infected because you can pass the infection back and forth. More about sex with a yeast infection.
- A variety of sexually-transmitted infections can cause foul smells. Trichomoniasis is especially likely to be the culprit; although, it’s not the only one.
Each of these infections has different causes and requires different treatment.
For example, antibiotics won’t do anything for the overgrowth of candida in your vagina that causes a yeast infection. However, boric acid suppositories can make you taste better by helping to clear up your yeast infection.
Make sure you know what infection you’re dealing with before you seek treatment.
How to Make Your Vagina Taste Good
There’s certainly less information about tricks that will make your pussy taste good like how eating pineapple can improve the taste of a guy’s ejaculate. However, the same general principles that keep him tasty and fresh-smelling apply. Wondering how long before oral should you eat pineapple? It depends, and a single serving probably won’t make your vagina taste better. Instead, add more sweet fruit to your diet overall.
A healthy diet is important. Eating too much sugar, processed foods or meat may decrease the pleasantness of your body odor, so you should be cautios about those foods that make your vagina taste bad. So make sure to eat plenty of veggies and fruits that make you taste good. Maybe pineapple will work to improve your taste, too!
Being hydrated is crucial, too. This will decrease the intensity of your sweat, urine, and body in general and can make your pussy taste better. Plus, drinking water is good for your figure.
Certain things such as smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol, or doing drugs won’t help you taste good down there. Consider cutting down or quitting entirely to make your vagina taste and smell good.
Preparing for Sex
If you’re concerned about how to make your vagina taste good or how to make your vagina smell good, then you’re probably concerned about sex, especially oral sex. You don’t want your partner to be turned off or grossed out, and you don’t want to be so concerned about your taste and smell that you can’t enjoy it.
The key is preparation. If you crawl into bed with a guy after a long day or after hitting the gym or even when you have your period, you might not feel so fresh or taste fantastic. So why not take a shower? And if your man is down, you can invite him too.
Guys are often so concerned with how they smell that they don’t think about your own odor.
During your shower or bath, you can rinse with a sensitive soap or non-scented soap/body wash. You definitely want to stay away from heavily scented products because of how sensitive your vagina can be to chemicals. Your vagina is self-cleaning, so you don’t need to cleanse inside, just the vulva.
Rinse thoroughly with water and really get in there, using your fingers to wash away sweat and any discharge. When you’re done cleaning, thoroughly dry the area. Moisture can become trapped, leading to some funky smells if you don’t.
One thing we don’t recommend is douching. While they are advertised for cleaning out your vagina, douches can actually contain chemicals that can upset your vagina’s pH balance. If this causes an infection, you definitely won’t taste or smell great until it clears up!
Taking a shower washes off all the sweat and grime from the day and makes you feel clean and sexy, but what about when you don’t have time for a shower? We recommend using a wet wipe for this purpose. Wet toilet paper offers a refresher, but there are products made specifically for wiping before oral sex that you can consider, too.
Stay Fresher, Longer
A simple and easy way to make your vagina smell good is to wear natural fibers such as cotton and loose pants to allow your vagina to breathe. This allows sweat in the area to dry. This is important because sweat creates a nice home for bacteria that can lead to unpleasant, musty odors and even infections [5]. In fact, this might be a reason to try going commando.
Related: All About Vaginal Odor
Alternatively, you can wear panty liners with your panties to keep yourself fresh. Daily liners are so thin that you won’t even notice them, and you can toss them. Plus, they protect your underwear from any discharge.
Another thing that might make you smell less than fresh? Wearing thongs. The thin strips of material can transmit bacteria and usually don’t leave you smelling all that great.
Consider the menstrual products that you’re using. Pads (sanity napkins) require blood to leave the body before it’s absorbed into the product, which means that the smell may be stronger and more unpleasant than a tampon or menstrual cup that catches blood before it leaves your body.
If you do use a menstrual cup, be sure to rinse it off after you dump it out and disinfect it in between periods.
Improve Taste & Smell During Sex
Some people have anecdotally reported that cranberry pills improve the taste of their genitals, so you can try them to make your vagina taste sweet. Some people also believe that cranberry pills can help prevent or fight UTIs, but there is no resarch that backs up that idea as of yet [6]. Because of this, cranberries or cranberry pill may not be as effective as some people claim.
Another option is to consider a scented or flavored product such as lube when your man is going down on you. Some of these products also increase sensation thanks to ingredients such as menthol. However, beware of chemicals containing glycerin, which should only be used externally as they can potentially contribute to yeast infections. And those won’t help with your smell or taste.
One thing to note is that after a guy ejaculates in you, your smell may change. Your man’s semen has a different pH than your vagina. His semen is more basic with a pH between 7 and 8 [7] while your vagina is slightly more acidic, ranging from 4-6 [8]. The combination can change your smell and is responsible for the smell of sex.
So using a condom not only helps to prevent pregnancy and the transmission of STIs, but it might be one way to make your vagina smell good.

Don’t Sweat It
Women seem more self-conscious about their vaginas, including the way they look, smell and taste, than men do their penises. After all, a guy is always down for a blowjob, and he seldom gives a second thought to how pleasant he smells. In fact, you may have gone down on a fellow or two in the past who could have used a shower but was blissfully ignorant of the fact.
So you might not always smell shower fresh, and that’s okay. Your natural smell or taste may not be like honey the way it’s inaccurately described in bad erotica. That’s okay, too. You don’t need to know how to make your vagina taste good if there’s nothing wrong with your natural taste, to begin with. If you have a pussy, you have good pussy.
Go ahead and sit on his face, anyway!
What’s not okay is if a guy is refusing to go down on you or making you feel bad about your body. In these situations, it’s totally your option to dump him and find a partner who’s more giving and reasonable. After all, sex is sometimes messy and weird and awkward, and if he’s not mature enough to handle that, you don’t need to be having sex with him!
As long as you’re healthy and have good hygiene, your natural musk is nothing to worry about. Don’t spend too much time wondering how to taste good and smell good unless it’s something out of the ordinary. Any partner who is worth your time will understand that, too.
Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ #1 – What does vagina taste like?
It both depends on who you ask and who they’re tasting. Some people would tell you that all vaginas taste a bit similar, while others might say each one is unique. Words that are commonly used to describe the taste range from salty to bitter to savory to acidic to sweet to sour. Scientific research has even described the smell as “cheesy” [1]. More than one person has described the taste of vagina as similar to pennies or metallic.
Read More: What Does Vagina Taste Like?
There isn’t an easy way to describe what vagina tastes like without tasting it yourself! You can taste yourself on your partner’s penis or fingers or even taste another woman to understand what vagina tastes like.
FAQ #2 – Why has my vagina’s taste changed?
Taste can vary throughout your menstrual cycle. Pregnancy or menopause could also affect the taste. A change in diet, health (such as an infection), and medication could also be at play. A different laundry or bath soap may also play a role. Consider all the things that have changed since you noticed the change in taste or smell, even if they seem unrelated.

Orgasm Every Time. Easily. Here’s How...
I want to tell you about my friend Karen.
Karen came to me one day. She was hysterical.
She told me that her marriage was falling apart because she and her husband didn’t have satisfying sex.
Every time they were intimate, Karen was faking her orgasms. It turns out she couldn’t orgasm during sex.
In fact...
She never had an orgasm in her entire life. Not one!
This left her feeling embarrassed and ashamed. And...
She completely hid this from her husband. Thankfully...
It turns out that there is a way for any woman to orgasm. Easily. And have multiple vaginal and full body orgasms during sex and masturbation.
I shared the process with Karen.
After she followed the simple process, she could barely come to terms with how...
Quickly and dramatically her sex life changed.
We met up a few months later and...
She would not stop talking about it,
“I thought I was one of those women who couldn’t orgasm. I used to think I was ‘broken’ and ‘unfixable.’ This saved my sex life, and that saved my marriage.”
Even if you currently struggle to orgasm during sex or when masturbating, this process will also work for you.
And best of all, you don’t need to do anything weird or uncomfortable to start having the best orgasms and sex of your life.

Mi says
Azo cranberry pills, you can find at walmart or walgreens & also drink cranberry juice too!!!
kylie says
aren’t cranberries for a UTI? but if i get pills they make u taste and smell good?
Carla says
My boyfriend of 3 months hasn’t gone down on me once because he says that he’s been with a couple girls in his past that smelled funky so he’s had bad experiences. I really didn’t say anything up until a few days ago. I don’t know the whole story of what happened in his past but I felt offended that in a way he was comparing me to other women he’d been with in that he thought my vagina area was gross too. I told him I have nothing to do with those girls and I shouldn’t be punished for something that doesn’t even involve me. I explained in detail how he was making me feel…It’s not fair. Keep in mind he also expects me to go down on him all the time…I think I might have gotten through to him because ever since that talk he talks about going down on me more and expresses more interest. We’ll see how things go. I was wondering if I should try to make my lady parts smell nice but I’m just going to do it au natural and make sure I’m clean and showered. He probably is oblivious to his smell not saying he stinks but he’s not always a bed of Roses down there either.
Sean Jameson says
That’s the funny thing! Lots of guys don’t think they have a smell/taste
Pamela says
Then don’t go down on him either… Problem solved. I bet if you tell him that until he does it to you, he’s not getting it either, he’ll start doing it then.
Anamika says
Well it’s been a year I’ve been in relationship with a married guy and he always lick my pussy as he says I taste very good as compared to his wife and that surely makes me more hornier…
Landing strip says
Wow , as a married woman , that is very disturbing
Megatron says
Maybe so, but he still goes home to the wife with the unappetizing cooter…
Cathy says
Live your life and what makes you happier/ hornier. He goes home to a wife because he has to, not because he wants to. Hooray wife you must be proud to be in an unhappy marriage that your husband seeks gratification elsewhere.
Amanda Roberts says
agreed! I honestly went a full year, twice where my boyfriend didnt go down on me…I mean I honestly started to think something was wrong with me down there, so I brought it to his attention and we had many discussions about it, where he would always end up saying something like “ok let’s do it then”….”it” meaning giving oral sex to me, but at that point I was just totally self conscious and there was no way I was going to be able to relax and enjoy it, I mean nobody wants oral sex out of obligation…am I right? and he also expected me to go down on him all the time which I did because it felt good for me to be able to please him, watching him get turned on from my touch was very saucy I just felt super insecure he didnt feel the same, so one day he told me he didnt enjoy oral sex or want to do it much on me because he felt like he wasnt very good at it…which I knew was a total cop out
…so anyways he eventually ended up admitting the real reason was because he didnt get anything out of it…basically it wasnt fun or didnt do anything for him as far as getting turned on when he would go down on me, so although i felt pretty ctappy to know that it also felt good to finally know the truth and figure out what was really going on…ebem tho it was hurtful to hear
..as a woman I’m just wired differently I get a ton of satisfaction from pleasuring him but being able to discuss these issues with him and feel like I had been heard and vise versa has really changed our sex life for the. better. So believe me when I say you you deserve someone who isnt t going to complain about going down on you because of past experiences or someone who compares you to women in the past! there is someone out there for everyone I truly believe that so if he isnt willing to compromise dont over look it and be prepared to move on if you dont see actual progress
Sean Jameson says
Thanks so much for sharing your story Amanda! It’s important for others to know this.
John Anderson says
It’s got nothing to do with you being a woman. I have the exact same situation with my wife. The reason she hates giving me head is because it does nothing for her.
Even though her body really responds to it – she gets wetter, orgasm is stronger and happens faster
She still hates giving me head though

Guy here. Fyi, that guide is total bollocks. You want to taste and smell great (for a man)? Here’s the absolute, unabridged and definitive answer:
Don’t do *anything*. Don’t try to adapt your diet. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD throw your entire collection of douches, creams or whatever you use to clean your nether regions away. Don’t use perfume. Just. Don’t. Period.
There’s nothing more attractive to litterally any man than the scent of a (slightly or even strongly) musky, oniony vagina.
You know how you get turned on by the sight of a slightly sweaty, muscular man’s torso after workout? That’s about the effect your scent has on us.
It’s not because you (some of you) don’t enjoy the taste and smell of semen that you should assume the same from men. We’re much more instinctively drawn in by your odors; no guy I’ve ever talked to about vaginal smell said anything bad about it (aside about the smells due to illness, but that’s not the point here).
Diangela says
I think you are right about this. I’m a lady and I Know that my nether regions is absolutely fine, I’ve even asked exes. What I cannot fathom is why my new boyfriend won’t go down on me. Its very frustrating and I don’t want to be so selfish, though I am so sad about it.
Lost says
Thank you Charley. I swear I get nervous. My hair stinks to me. I don’t care if its shaved off full bush. The smell will not go away. After oral, when he comes up I smell it on his face. I never get any complaints but it makes me feel insecure. I do not care how much I scrub it. I just do not like that musk
Sean Jameson says
I know that it’s easy for me to say, but…
Have you considered that he may enjoy your smell? Or that he may not be bothered by it?
Sherrydoll says
Well after my boyfriend and I have sex he always pass his hands on his dick then smells it and smiles. He then says that I smell so good. It makes me feel good that he does it after every round of sex.
Courtney says
I feel u on this
John says
I’m a guy, and I’ve never really enjoyed going down on a girl, but I do it because I want her to feel good. I’ve got to the point where I don’t mind doing it at all now, but I don’t like the taste when they get wet, so my tongue only stays near the clit.
I’m with a girl now that I care deeply about, and she low key mentioned loving when a guy gets his face right in there, and actually puts his tongue into the vagina.
I really wanna do this for her even though she gets off with clit stimulation and fingering.
Is the best advice I’m gonna get “grow up and do it”?
Do you just get use to it if you force yourself to?
If there is any advice on going around her butt hole too would be appreciated, that’s even harder to try.
Sean Jameson says
Try it, you might like it 😉
Mike says
Whoa whoa whoa. I disagree. There’s nothing more nasty then going down on a woman & she smells like emtire shrimping fleet is in!!! When it stinks that bad I don’t even wamma stick my dick in it!!!
My lady is open to all sorts of suggestions & cranberry juice is the way to go.
Changing her diet as well as baths (not quick showers) is a big plus.
I’ve had women in the past tell me if I eat strawberries a couple hours before she goes down on me, it makes my jiss taste better.
My lady (of 12 yrs) likes to please me as I enjoy pleasing her.
Marie says
I smell oniony and I’m so self conscious about it! I didn’t smell like that before, I was more musky idk what happened. I even went to the dr and no findings of infection or stds. I have no clue what else to do or just live with it since Hubbs is ok with it 😭
Chatty says
Am a girl. I personally don’t like how I smell but whenever my boyfriend goes down me he tells me that I have the best smell and taste. He goes down on me even when I don’t want.
I just want to say sometimes what you don’t like is what someone enjoys most. Just be confident !
Brittany says
My boyfriend of about 3 months had told me he doesn’t really like the taste and, “it’s a sometimes thing”. However, I absolutely love it when a guy eats me out. How should I get a stubborn guy to do it more often?
Sean Jameson says
Grrr…sounds very frustrating. Can you talk to him about this is a frank way?
Brittany says
I probably could, but I’m very shy so It is difficult to start a conversation involving anything sexual.
Sherrydoll says
Leave shyness out of you life. Men appreciates a lady but loves a freak. I can’t help it but to say dirty things to my bf, I text him dirty phrases, I tell him what I want him to do etc. He does the same also.
The point is stop feeling shy to say the things he wants and will enjoy from you. If you can’t do it sober, try doing it after a few drinks. Lol
Good luck with it
Enrique says
You are for sure an honest woman who know what she wants and talk clearly. I love it.
Vanessa says
My advice is to not do anything other than take good care of yourself, eat wholesome food, drink lots of water and clean yourself regularly (lije shower etc). The vagina IS a self cleaning tool. However unfortunately because I am prone to BV, I have had to do regular maintenance boric acid suppositories (esp if I have a new sex partner). These help balance PH, my OB/Gyn recommended them to me after I was in the clinic every few months with a suspected case. I have had so much good results with this. I also take expensive probiotics that are specific for vaginal and urinary health, find them at a natural grocery store, but they also help with immunity and other awesome things. Other than that I keep to the above. Happy eating folks!
Lozza says
I’ve had 3 kids and with each one, I obviously noticed changes in my body. I have noticed my odor increasing slightly over the last year. It isn’t a bad smell, but it makes me feel insecure. Whenever my sexual partner mentions going down on me, I kinda shy away from it. I don’t want to though. Reading a few comments about how guys don’t really care has made me feel slightly more confident.
Scott says
Listen I’ve been married for 30 years love the smell and taste always it’s open flesh what do guys expect get in there and do your fucking job eat it like your starving
David G says
I absolutely love the taste of pussy, especially the ones that get really creamy when the woman is sexually excited. I love to get a nice big helping on my finger after sticking it deep inside her and then licking it off. Every girl I’ve ever done that with (which has been plenty) finds it quite exciting that I love her taste so much.
Krystyn Easley says
Creamy pussy….. how do I achieve that? I want to see when I come! I feel wet but don’t see.

Karis Iverson says
So my man has said I have a not unbearable smell but, really wouldn’t go down on me. So one night I googled it and read where you put yogurt up there for a little while and then shower. He said it tastes good smells good, now I feel better too. Great site thank you
Celeste says
Plain yogurt, and used fingers to stick some inside you or just lathered on tje outside?!
Traci says
Healthy diet, plenty of water in your diet and I take double strength cranberry pills made a huge difference
Brittany says
Any recommendations for dealing with odor from an IUD? Probiotics have worked for me but I still feel like I smell off and it makes me self conscious.
Karey Grace says
As a lesbian, I have tasted other women before and have had varying results that usually boil down to your diet the days before. For example, I was with a woman who had a balanced, healthy diet all the time, and she had zero taste. Another woman I had dated had a regular diet but ate junk food all the time. She tasted more metallic and acidic.
Blessing says
How do I get this cranberry or whatever it’s called?
Sean Jameson says
Grocery stores in the US should have it.
Karyn says
I have had 4 children and after my last which was a little over a year ago I have had issues with my smell. I shower regularly and have stopped using soap down there all together but I still feel like I smell funny down there. My husband has mentioned over the past year that sometimes I taste and smell off and it makes me very self conscious. I am at a loss of what to do.
Sean Jameson says
Have you talked to your doctor?
Karyn says
I have but they just tell me to stop using soap down there. I have start cranberry vitamins and trying to drink more water and pineapple juice. It has really made me self conscious all the time.
Sammy whammy bar says
I hve a confession I am super freaked out because my friend told me her story about a guy going down on her. He told her that he stuff stank and tasted weird he even gagged. We have the same type of hygiene as far as I know but that fear of someone doing that to me even my fiancé makes me never want to have it done. Especially my fiancé he never went down on someone so I’m scared he will get sick and I’ll feel the humiliation she felt
Sean Jameson says
That guy sounds like a complete asshat. However, if you have genuine health concerns about how you smell, talk to a doctor. It’s natural to have a scent, many guys love it, others don’t.
Princess zora says
A guy once went down on me and after he was done left to brush his teeth, that has left a lot of questions in my head, do i taste bad or was he just trying to be clean.
Sean Jameson says
The only way to truly know is to ask him
Puddles says
I use boric acid like 3 days out the week and I never have an odor or any adverse reactions with her. My man can’t keep his face out my pussy, lol! He says it’s like eating Greek yogurt. I am also very wet and a squirter💦
Vir says
The best way to describe the taste is very light pleasant metallic and hints of pine! There is no better taste in the world but there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing your prep, especially if you’ve had a long or active day. No need for special diets or formulas, just scrub and like the article says, don’t be afraid to really get in there when you are scrubbing. And absolutely nothing wrong with grabbing a quick shower before you get down to business. I practice what I preach, I scrub like there is no tomorrow if there is any possibility of action and top it off with a garnish of Axe. I’d be horrified if I had any kind of funk so better safe than sorry. The goal should be like a Coors Light, barely a taste but what is there is delicious.
Holly Heidestrom says
I am blessed to not have odor or taste
and my guy can’t get enough. Even after I squirt and
cum then give him a bj it still has no specific smell or taste.
Anon says
Both my husband and I LOVE how I taste and smell, I have no special diet or anything. I love tasting myself on his lips and tongue after he has eaten me out and I’ve cum and I love tasting myself from his dick after penetration. It’s so hot!
Rissie says
I actually don’t enjoy oral performed on me but he loves it so I let him do it. It’s mainly for his pleasure but on the other hand I love sucking him off and the taste of his cum. I learned how to deep throat with him and I love it! He says I am one of the few who can bring him to cum orally and he’s been around prior to me. I am 54 (female) and he is 59. We have been together for 12 years.
Mel says
I sometimes have a slight odour, but that is partly because I am kinda a sterotypical lesbian of my time and wear jeans a lot of the time.
My girlfriend sometimes mentions it when she has been down on me but personally, unless it is significant and “just a day’s work” I like the taste and smell – like liking the smell of petrol when at a petrol station.
I find swimming helps – it’s a great place to commune with other women and helps me keep clean.
That, or I visit Lush for their shower gels.
